Movement is one of the ways I cope with pain, a method to redirect its grip and give my mind a brief respite from the cycle of discomfort. I knew I needed to create something as messy and chaotic as the pain I was living with. People in pain need to move; motion is vital. So, I bought a pair of boxing gloves, dipped them in paint, and began punching the canvas. The gloves became my brushes, and the act of striking the canvas turned into a visceral way of expressing the frustration I feel.
This "fight" with pain is embodied in each punch—a silent battle, represented by the repetitive motions that vary visually day by day. Each mark on the canvas reflects my ongoing struggle, shifting with the intensity and nature of the pain. Through this process, I turn frustration into an intuitive, physical act of expression.
